12 Stuff Ups of Christmas

#6 A car accident (that didn’t include me)

I was very grateful that my parents could have my children while I did a little last minute shopping this morning. I went low key and hit the smaller, less popular places and started early to avoid the craziness of pre-Christmas panic buying.

When I get panic buying my anxiety kicks in. Usually this is ok because I just buy extra and then it’s good for birthdays or that person I somehow forgot. But I’m trying to stick to a budget. I don’t have a figure I just kind of guess. Until it gets close to spending all my money then I count.

Anyway I had a plan of what I needed to buy so no problem right? First I hit my local Big W (not sponsored) where Miss 9 had recently wanted to purchase a specific back pack for her doll. This was just the right size present to even up the small gifts I’d bought for my children. Too easy…SOLD OUT. Waaaah

Next onto ALDI where I had found a week before, Disney Christmas wrapping paper. Perfect for Santa! And also…gone! I happened to find a doll with a back pack so that solved a different problem. Was a little more than I was planning on spending but no big deal.

By the time I got into the Coles car park things were starting to get hectic. I started going over the list of things I still needed, chocolate or lolly stockings, alcohol, wrapping paper for Santa presents. Groceries, must grocery shop. Must I, maybe I can do that tomorrow.

I’m walking across the car park in my own little world when I suddenly notice two cars reversing…into each other. It is as frustrating as it is inevitable. I yell out to them in vain and then the crunch happens. I squeal. Like when someone jumps out at you or you step on a lego, I actually squeal out loud.

A man walking by stares at me and I point to the cars. ‘They just ran into each other’ I say pointing at the cars. He quickly turns his head and continues walking, as if I’m crazy and he might catch it.

I take some deep breaths and continue with my mission. I score some chocolate stockings and wrapping paper. And some things for tonight’s dinner maybe things that might work for a couple of other nights.

And I get back in my searing hot vehicle and back out reeeeally slowly to head home. How shit would a car accident be right before Christmas. But at least that was a minor one. Be safe out there everyone.
