On the third day of Christmas some young friends gave to me…a head full of lice probably.
It started a couple of weeks ago when I heard there were cases of lice at a centre I was working at. I wasn’t scratching yet which is strange because normally the mere mention of the little buggars causes instant paranoia and associated itching but I should have suspected.
It’s summer. Lice love summer and they also love my scalp. And working casual means multiple centres and multiple exposure sights. Oh what fun.
I had a mild itch here and there last week but I put it down to other things, I’d been out without a hat and got to much sun in my head, I’d not washed my hair in a bit maybe it was just dirty, maybe it just had sand in it from the sand pit or salt from the sea.
Checked it with a fine tooth comb but results were iffy, was it moving or was it just the hair moving and it was fluff? Inconclusive but still very itchy I scoured the house for something that would kill anything that may or may not be there. And I was in luck, sort of.
So now I’m sitting here at 10.28 at night with out of date nit killer in my hair, waiting a little longer in case that makes a difference.
I don’t know why I get them as an adult when others don’t seem to, maybe their not honest or maybe my blood is just super tasty, mosquitoes love me too.
So if anything dear reader take this as a reminder to check yours and your children’s hair. It’s a bit shit but they won’t kill you and if you get on to them early it’s much easier and saves passing them on to others.
